Lianhua Mountain is part of the Tai Mountain range and is a product of the ancient ‘Tai Mountain Movement’. The main body of the mountain was formed by crustal faulting and subsidence, creating a terrain of steep mountains and deep valleys. It is said that there are ’36 mountain tops and 72 valleys’. The main peak, Lianhua Peak, stands at an elevation of 994 meters and is the tallest mountain in Laiwu. Lianhua Mountain has a rich historical and cultural heritage. The ‘Book of Songs’ records ‘the cypresses of Xinfu, intertwined for hundreds of miles’; in 110 BC, Emperor Wu of Han sought immortality and asked for divine guidance here. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, it has become a sacred Buddhist site. There are numerous ancient relics and ruins scattered throughout the mountain. Emperors and literary figures such as Qianlong, Zhang Daoyi, Wang Yingxiu, and Tang Zhongmian have all left behind poems praising Lianhua Mountain.
