Lianyungang Old Street is located in Lianyun Street, Lianyun District, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. It is also known as ‘Lianyun Old Street’ and ‘Lianyun Ancient Town’. It is one of the four old streets in Lianyungang City (Haizhou Ancient City, Minzhu Road Cultural Street, Lianyungang Old Street, and Nancheng Liuchao Street). Since the construction of Lianyungang Port in 1933 and up to now after the liberation in 1948, the special geographical features of mountain city stone streets and stone houses and the imprints of the times left in different historical stages.
The reconstructed Lianyungang Old Street in 2003 will integrate traditional folk civilization, waterfront bar civilization, fashionable boutique shopping and seaside leisure vacation. It is a seaside stone street with unique characteristics of mountains, seas, ports and cities. In addition to admiring old buildings in Lianyungang Old Street, there are also various distinctive exhibition halls for visiting. The former site of the Folk Arts and Crafts Museum is the former Farmers Bank of Lianyun City of the Republic of China. There are exhibition halls for dough figurines, root carvings, gourd pyrography, paper cutting, traditional cloth ornaments, gongdian paintings, comic book collections, and Jialian jade exhibits. The Guochengli building complex is located in Guochengli Lane, Shengli Community. It is an independent small town. The architectural style is like that of the Qiao Family Courtyard. The layout is exquisite and the craftsmanship is exquisite. There are courtyards within courtyards. It is said that the Japanese army once opened a comfort station here. The round windows on the eaves and roof that are transparent are made of blue bricks with a Jiangnan flavor, while the columns, windows and door frames are all in Western style. From layout to details, it is a fine work in architecture in the 1920s and 1930s. The Lianyungang Old Street History and Culture Museum is mainly based on the ‘urban memory body’ to show the ‘past and present lives’ of Lianyungang Old Street and reflect the elegance of the old street for a hundred years. It focuses on displaying four special topics: old street impression, old street culture, comparison of past and present, and sunshine publicity. The Lianyungang History Museum of Longhai Railway is located in the museum of the old Lianyun Railway Station and is divided into two parts: indoor exhibition area and outdoor exhibition area. The indoor exhibition area has three floors. The first and second floors are the historical material display part. With a large number of precious historical old photos and accompanied by physical objects, it shows the course of the Longhai Railway through the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, starting slowly, being built in sections, and extending with difficulty until it was fully connected after the founding of New China. The third floor is the popular science and experience area, showing the history of the emergence and development of trains. The outdoor exhibition area is located in the east of the museum and is presented in the form of park attractions. Mainly three physical locomotives are displayed in the front square of the old Lianyun Railway Station. These three locomotives represent different eras of steam engine, internal combustion engine and electrification in the development of trains.Opening hours: Open all day all year round.
