Kunshan, also known as ‘Kun Mountain’, is steeped in legend. It is said that King Mu of Zhou was once besieged here by bandits and suffered from a lack of water. His horse pawed the ground to find a spring, hence the mountain is called ‘Kun Mountain’ and the spring ‘Ma Pao Spring’. At the end of the Sui and beginning of the Tang dynasty, Li Mi led the Wagang Army to build an ancient stockade on the mountain.
