Jiefang Pavilion is situated at the southeast corner of the former Jinan city wall, to the east of the Black Tiger Spring, facing the spring across the moat. The site marks the breakthrough point during the Jinan Campaign in 1948, when the People’s Liberation Army captured Jinan (specifically on September 24, 1948). After the old city walls were demolished due to urban construction, the people of Jinan purposefully built the majestic Jiefang Pavilion on the site of the old city to commemorate the liberation of Jinan. The stone base, standing 10 meters high, was completed in 1965, but construction was halted during the Cultural Revolution. The pavilion was built on the platform in 1985 and was officially inaugurated on September 24, 1986. Jiefang Pavilion is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit in Shandong Province and one of Jinan’s patriotic education bases. Standing atop Jiefang Pavilion, visitors can pay their respects to the heroes and martyrs. It is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-16:00; closed all day on Mondays, and the business hours on public holidays are subject to announcements.
