Located on the west side of the scenic and historical attraction Qianfoshan Park, Jinan City Museum is a comprehensive local museum.
The museum currently houses over 20,000 pieces of cultural relics and more than 2,000 volumes of rare books. The collections primarily originate from archaeological excavations, national allocation, and donations from social organizations and individuals. Among the artifacts, there are many national treasures, such as the Neolithic Age ‘Spiral Pattern Carved Ivory Comb,’ the Shang Dynasty’s bronze inlaid gold and silver ‘Eye Pattern Spear,’ the Spring and Autumn Period ‘Lu Bo Dafu’s Dowry for Ji Ji Bronze Gui,’ Warring States jade spoon, and the ‘Painted Pottery Figurines of Music, Dance, and Acrobatics’ unearthed from early Western Han Dynasty tombs, all of which are unique in the country. Vividly lifelike Tang Dynasty stone carvings of immortals and phoenixes on a carriage, gold and silver inlay mirrors, copper kiln rhinoceros porcelain pillows, tri-color camels, Song Dynasty Dangyangyu kiln carved flower porcelain pillows, Yuan Dynasty underglaze red jade spring vase, Ming Dynasty Xuande blue and white lotus pattern large dish, Qing Dynasty Kangxi multicolored character vase, and Qianlong Emperor’s inscribed ‘Jade Collection from Hotan’ jade mountain are all masterpieces of their respective eras. In addition, calligraphy and painting constitute a significant portion of the collection, with many fine pieces, especially from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as landscapes by the Song Dynasty’s Guo Xi school, Yuan Dynasty painter Sheng Mao’s ‘Autumn Creek Fishing,’ Lin Liang’s ‘Reed Marsh Geese Play,’ and works by late Qing to modern masters like Ren Bonian, Wu Changshu, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Fu Baoshi, and Liu Haisu. Opening hours are 09:00-17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, with last entry at 16:30. The museum is closed all day on Mondays, except for legal holidays.Jinan City Museum
