Ganlu Temple, originally known as Baicao Temple, was established during the Northern Wei Dynasty and has a history of 1400 years. It is said that when Baicao Temple was first built, it was named after the medicinal herbs that grew abundantly in the area. The third daughter of Emperor Yang of Sui, Princess Nanyang, discontent with her father’s tyrannical rule, took vows as a nun here under the Dharma name Miaoshan.
Upon learning this, Emperor Yang was furious and ordered the temple to be burned down. Miaoshan was rescued by Dou Jiande, the leader of a peasant rebellion at the time, and was escorted to Cangyan Mountain in western Hebei to practice in seclusion. During the Tang Dynasty, when Buddhism was at its peak, Baicao Temple was rebuilt and renamed Ganlu Temple. It is open to visitors all year round from 08:00 to 18:00.Ganlu Temple
