Pingdu City Museum is a comprehensive local museum. Comprising a group of magnificent ancient architectural structures, the museum’s street-facing antique eaves gate is adorned with a plaque inscribed by the renowned artist Liu Haisu. Flanking the entrance are solemn stone lions, exuding an air of dignity and authority. Upon entering, one is immediately struck by the sight of an ancient ginkgo tree that has withstood the test of time.
The museum houses a collection of over 11,000 cultural relics, including stone tools, pottery, bone artifacts, shell objects, jade, porcelain, bronze ware, stone inscriptions, and calligraphy and paintings. Among the more than 600 treasures currently on display, some are considered national treasures. Notably, the ‘Ya’ shaped stone axe and the semi-circular double-holed stone knife from the Yueshi culture, as well as the bronze gui with dragon and tiger patterns from the Spring and Autumn period, are all exquisite works of art. The museum attracts a large number of domestic and international calligraphers and cultural relic enthusiasts each year. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, closed all day on Mondays. Must-see tips: 1. Individual visitors can collect admission tickets at the museum entrance with valid identification on the day of the visit. 2. Group visitors need to make a reservation five days in advance by phone. After successful reservation, collect tickets at the museum one day in advance with a letter from the organization and the reservation number.
