Wu Xi Stele Forest Scenic Area

Wu Xi Stele Forest is located on the cliffs on the south bank of Xiangjiang River, about three kilometers south of Qiyang County. It is about more than 50 kilometers from Yongzhou City. In 764 AD, Yuan Jie wrote ‘Ode to the Great Revival of the Tang Dynasty’, which records the An-Shi Rebellion. Later, it was engraved on the cliffs by Yan Zhenqing, a famous calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty. Yuan’s text, Yan’s calligraphy, and the natural cliffs form the ‘three wonders of cliffs’ of the stele forest, which is also a major highlight of the entire stele forest.

Scholars and literati of all dynasties came here to visit, compose poems and odes, and engrave them on stones. There are currently more than 400 books, paintings, poems, ci, and inscriptions of celebrities of all dynasties from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. It also includes four engraved stones left by Vietnamese envoys in the Qing Dynasty when they passed by here. Opening hours: Open from 08:00 to 18:00 all year round.
