Tongtian Fortress in Shicheng

Tongtian Fortress Scenic Area, located 5 kilometers southeast of Shicheng County in the towns of Dashu and Qianjiang, is named after the main rock formation Tongtian Rock, which is described as ‘externally like two fingers clamped together, internally like two palms half-closed, and when looking up at the sky, it seems to reach the heavens.’ It is renowned for its ‘strange rocks, secluded caves, beautiful springs, fragrant tea, and prosperous Buddhism.


‘ The area is a national AAAA-level scenic spot, a national geopark, a provincial forest park in Jiangxi, a provincial low-carbon tourism demonstration area, a provincial tourist resort, a provincial 5A rural tourism site, and one of the thirteen core tourism areas in Ganzhou City. It is a comprehensive tourist area integrating agricultural sightseeing, leisure vacation, geological science popularization, and Hakka folk customs.


The planned area of the scenic area is 27.1 square kilometers, with steep and towering mountains and peaks, with the main peak reaching an altitude of 601.7 meters. The fortress has a dense concentration of scenic spots, including more than one hundred attractions such as Tongtian Rock, Stone Sprout Reaching the Sky, Immortal Plowing Fields, Turtle Crack Protruding Stone, Damo Cave, Glass Viewing Platform, Command Platform, and Yumu Zen Temple; below the fortress, one can enjoy tens of thousands of acres of green lotus, view splendid lanterns, visit ancient dwellings, and taste Hakka cuisine.


The man-made and natural landscapes complement each other, making it a place where every step reveals a new scene. Among them, the ‘Three Wonders of Tongtian’ are particularly famous: first, the extremely rare large-scale rock surface turtle crack protruding stone landform in the country; second, the lifelike Thousand Buddhas Danxia without any artificial carving; and third, the rare natural landscape where the Root of Life and the Gate of Life are on the same mountain.


Opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:30 all year round. Preferential policies: Children under 6 years old (inclusive) or under 1.2 meters (inclusive) in height enter for free. Minors aged 6 to 18 years old (exclusive) can enter with valid identification and student certificates or those between 1.2 meters (exclusive) and 1.5 meters (inclusive) in height enjoy discounts. Elderly people aged 65 and above (inclusive) enter for free with identification or senior citizen cards; those aged 60 to 65 (exclusive) enjoy discounts with identification or senior citizen cards.


Disabled individuals enter for free with disability certificates. Active military personnel enter for free with officer or soldier certificates. Eligible preferential treatment individuals enter for free with valid documents. Doctors enter for free with doctoral certificates. Individuals recognized for their contributions during the pandemic enter for free with provincial-level recognition documents and personal identification.
