Chenzhou City Museum is located in the Chenzhou Cultural Center, south of Wuling Square. It features three exhibition halls: Historical Exhibition, Western Jin Bamboo Slip Exhibition, and Ice and Snow Disaster Relief Exhibition. Over 280 precious cultural relics, more than 100 Western Jin bamboo slips, and over 180 photographs will showcase the long history, folk customs, bamboo slip displays, and the unyielding spirit of Chenzhou people in the fight against the severe ice and snow disaster in 2008, presenting the demeanor of Chenzhou.
The museum houses a collection of 160,000 volumes, making it an important base for patriotic and revolutionary traditional education, as well as a significant window for displaying Chenzhou’s historical culture, social civilization, and construction achievements. With a construction area of about 8,000 square meters, the museum showcases a selection of representative precious historical artifacts from Chenzhou, reflecting the basic overview of Chenzhou’s social development, politics, economy, culture, and life from different eras and aspects, especially the Western Jin bamboo slips unearthed from ancient wells that recorded government archives in bamboo slip form, which are of great importance in the history of Chinese cultural relics.
