Guan Yin Mountain Wang Shan Temple Scenic Area is located approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Fo Gang County, Qingyuan City. Surrounded by perennial clouds and mist, it maintains a pristine forest ecosystem and is one of the eight famous mountains in Guangdong, as well as a renowned Buddhist mountain.

The entire scenic area features towering mountains and lush forests. It is named Guan Yin Mountain because its mountain ridges resemble the reclining figure of Guan Yin, both in form and spirit. Since the Northern Song Dynasty, Guan Yin Mountain Wang Shan Temple has been a place of worship for countless Buddhist devotees.

Currently, there are 238 species of animals and 1143 species of plants in the mountain forests of Guan Yin Mountain, including endangered animals such as the clouded leopard, python, and pangolin, as well as ancient plants from the Jurassic period, like the Alsophila tree, which is known as a ‘living fossil’. It is one of China’s larger natural subtropical biological gene banks.

The Wang Shan Temple that visitors see today was rebuilt after being destroyed in wars. In the middle of the temple’s square, there is a pure gold statue of the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Guan Yin, about 4.8 meters high, and was consecrated by 108 enlightened monks, making it a treasure of the temple.
