The Fengcai Tower is located in the urban area of Shaoguan. It faces the Wushui River to the west and the Zhenjiang River to the east. It was built by Qian Yong, the magistrate of Shaozhou during the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty, in memory of Yu Jing, a famous official of the Northern Song Dynasty. It has been rebuilt many times. As Yu Jing had the reputation of ‘being even more magnificent and influencing the court’, it is named Fengcai Tower. The calligraphy of ‘Fengcai Tower’ by Chen Baisha, a scholar of the Ming Dynasty, is flexible, vigorous, natural and unrestrained, and handsome. It is engraved into a stone plaque and hung high on the gate tower. The Fengcai Tower is about 22 meters high. The tower body has double eaves and green tiles. The top has triple upturned eaves and corners. There is a small round dome with decorations in the middle. The whole building is majestic and unique with imposing manner. It is a landmark building in Shaoguan City and is now the Shaoguan City Museum. Open all year round and all day.
