After a year of hiatus, Bad Sweetheart’s second full-length album ‘You Slept on the Curtain’ was officially released at midnight on November 14th. This is another full-length work following the EP ‘GoodGood BadBad’ two years ago. Just like the long summer break between two semesters, today, good friends and you and I meet again as promised. Accompanied by the intro track ‘Rabbit Sit Down Here’ with its clumsy yet agile distorted guitars, those youth fragments trapped in the shaking handheld DV lenses seem to come back to us again. ‘Naturally’ and ‘I Do What I Wanna Do’ make people unconsciously count the beat with their toes; ‘You Don’t Need a Photo’ perfectly imprints this autumn in your mind both visually and audibly; the ever-changing ‘2029’ along with the meaningful ending, and the intense ‘Rowing Race’ make your palms sweat, concluding the nearly 60-minute music in memories… ‘Some things we thought we had lost, we mobilized all friends around us to search for, only to find that they were not lost, they were just sleeping in the curtain.’ ‘You Slept on the Curtain’ includes 13 works, some of which have been shown in their original form during the 2023 tour; more, as the album says, it is the organization of every stage of Bad Sweetheart’s ‘verbose worries’ since its establishment, through many summers and autumns. From the first album ‘Let’s Stop Here Today’ with its initial trials, the worries hidden between mobile phone notes and voice recorders were gradually discovered and shared, to the different expression adopted after growth in ‘GoodGood BadBad’, now after the test of friendship, the trio of He Mingyang, Li Fan, and Jiang Honglang choose to continue moving forward, welcoming every challenge with a persistent DIY spirit and a life attitude that laughs to the point of tears. Earlier, the band released the homemade MV of the pre-release song ‘Gloomy Rainy Day’. The blue bedding makes people feel comfortable and secure, and our lives, like the protagonist played by drummer Li Fan, are taken out from the mysterious bed one by one, with all happiness, threats, and safety clearly visible in the small Simmons world. The three members acted in their true colors with the help of friends, which is also their first attempt to shoot a MV for their own song, and its interesting level is no less than an experimental class group assignment in high school.
Low-cost creation reaps great rewards. “Perhaps 1,000 yuan can do anything.” Following the restored supervisor video, we watched as Bad Sweetheart moved into the rehearsal room in the basement of Li Fan’s new home. They record their musical inspiration with perhaps not so expensive but very convenient second-hand equipment. “Shouting ‘Let’s do it!’ can immediately enter the state,” and there are still hearty laughs from time to time in life. “Perhaps the current Bad Sweetheart is no longer the same as when it met everyone a few years ago, but the way we share happiness with each other and with everyone has never changed.” New working methods, a new stage, and new plans with footsteps getting closer and closer… Don’t worry about lost things drifting away from us. Bad Sweetheart’s “Tears of the Hot Water Bottle (Warm Warm Tear)” four-city special performance in late 2024 has officially opened for sale.
