Chongshan Yinxiu is located at the southeastern foothill of Luding Mountain, where the original Chen Family Garden is. The Chen Family Garden, also known as Ruopu, was built in 1928 by Chen Zhongyan, a Wuxi national industrialist and businessman. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was set up as a nursery. In 1983, using 11 hectares of mountainous land here, the scenic spot of ‘Chongshan Yinxiu’ was built, which includes four areas: spring blossoms, summer shade, autumn colors, and winter scenery.

If you walk along the main road from the park gate and turn into the secluded valley, it is the spring blossom area. Here, a mountain stream is used to form ‘Green Lake’. Beside the water, there are artificially piled earth hills with different heights. A large number of flowers such as peach, plum, apricot, plum blossom, magnolia, azalea, and rose are planted, decorated with willows, camphor trees, and green bamboos.

On the surface of Green Lake, there are two small bridges. The straight bridge is named ‘Crossing Green’, and the curved bridge is ‘Looking Down at Green’. There is a bridge pavilion spanning Green Lake in the south, with eight columns and a hip roof. It is named ‘Xingqing’, which means ‘fish stir the waterweeds and swim’. Beside the water, there is a two-story building with green tiles and white walls, named ‘Drunken Fragrance Tower’.

Beside the building by the water, there is a square pavilion named ‘Polygonum Wind’. On the earth hill full of green bamboos, there is a hexagonal bamboo pavilion. The imitation bamboo pillars seem so real that it is named ‘Ge Pavilion’. ‘Ge’ is half of the character for bamboo. It is shaped like a bamboo leaf and is quite interesting. On the hillside, there is a classical building complex – Apricot Blossom Tower, with a total of five buildings, which serves as a tourist hotel.

To the west, there is the Calamus Garden, covering an area of 1 hectare. There are about 20,000 calamus plants of 200 varieties planted in the marsh. The flowers are gorgeous and colorful. The charm of the summer shade area lies in the trees, such as the century-old white camellia with elegant posture and snow-like flowers; the majestic king pine with straight pine needles like a duster. In particular, two evergreen chinquapin trees with thick shade are already five or six hundred years old at the foot of Luding Mountain.

These are all old things of the Chen Family Garden.

Opening hours: Open all year round and all day.
