Feng Lake Academy is one of the four major academies in Guangdong. It holds an important position in the educational history of Huizhou and even Guangdong. In the small academy, there are Chengguan Tower, Lequn Hall, Sunset Pavilion and Yufeng Pavilion. In 1922, the academy was destroyed and soon rebuilt and renamed Huizhou Middle School. In 1966, it was changed to Huizhou Normal School. After liberation, it was changed to Huiyang District Normal School. During the Cultural Revolution, it was changed to a conference guesthouse. In 1978, it was restored as Huizhou Normal School. In 1979, it was changed to Huiyang Teachers College. In 1993, it was changed to Huizhou University.
