In the old urban area on the north bank of Rongjiang River in Shantou City, along the 1-kilometer road from Shantou Xidi Wharf to Waima Road Intersection, there are a large number of buildings built in the early 20th century. This is Shantou Old Town. The ‘arcade’ for shelter from rain by the roadside, row upon row of shops, slightly messy streets, and the simple decorative patterns near doors and windows all reveal the unique historical charm of Shantou Old Town.
Here was once the busiest commercial area in Shantou City. Strolling among them, historical buildings such as the Department Store, Yongping Restaurant, Shantou General Post Office Building, and Laomagong still retain their original features, telling of the past glory here.
