Wunu Mountain Scenic Area Introduction

Wunu Mountain Scenic Area is located 8.5 kilometers north of Huanren County in the eastern part of Liaoning Province, connecting with Huanlong Lake. The main peak is 823 meters above sea level. It enjoys a unique geographical location, with majestic peaks, numerous landscapes, diverse plants, and lovely animals. It is a World Cultural Heritage Site, a national 4A-level scenic area, a famous mountain in China, the first capital city of the Goguryeo ethnic group, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and one of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China. In the scenic area, historical relics coexist with natural scenery.
Wunu Mountain City is large in scale, magnificent in momentum, and complete in system. In terms of the layout of the city site, the construction of the city wall, and the processing of wall stones, it highlights the outstanding wisdom and superb architectural skills of the Goguryeo ethnic group, setting a precedent for the Goguryeo people to build mountain cities and having a huge impact on later Goguryeo architecture and even Northeast Asian architectural techniques. Inside and outside the mountain city, many early Goguryeo relics have been discovered, such as the remains of the royal palace, barracks, granary, Tianchi, etc. After more than 2,000 years of vicissitudes, they make people recall the past and feel deeply touched.

Wunu Mountain not only has rich cultural connotations but also extremely beautiful natural landscapes. On the mountain, there are strange peaks in the sea of fog, ancient pine trees in secluded valleys, white clouds in a stream, and gentle breezes on the face. The Flying Peak stands out with a magnificent appearance as if flying from the sky; the Hero Pine grows along the mountain, showing heroic spirit; the Skyline is even more like a masterpiece of nature.

The stone cliffs on both sides stand upright, reaching a depth of 31 meters and a narrow width of 0.65 meters. Standing inside and looking up, only a thin line of blue sky can be seen. Standing on the General’s Platform and looking into the distance, one can overlook the vast expanse of Huanlong Lake in the east and the mysterious Fuxi of the Taiji Diagram in the south. When it is misty and rainy, the green mountains are like beautiful eyebrows, and the clear water is like a pool of blue, just like a light ink painting.

At the foot of Wunu Mountain, a large museum of 3,400 square meters has been newly built. It uses various forms such as multimedia, phantom imaging, scene restoration, and e-books to display more than 600 precious cultural relics unearthed from Wunu Mountain City. It reproduces the glorious history of the early establishment of Goguryeo and showcases the unique ethnic culture.
