Tianshi Cave is the main Taoist temple in Qingcheng Mountain. It is said that at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Daoling, the founder of Tianshi Taoism, practiced and preached here.
The existing palaces were built in the late Qing Dynasty. There is a plaque inscribed by Emperor Kangxi in the palace. Inside the cave, there is also a stone statue of Zhang Daoling carved in the Sui Dynasty. Tianshi Cave is about 2 kilometers away from Jianfu Palace. It is also known as Changdao Temple. The surrounding area is shaded by towering ancient trees, making it extremely serene.

There are buildings in the temple such as the Sanqing Hall, the Sanhuang Hall, and the Huangdi Shrine. The Sanqing Hall is the main hall. In the middle of the hall, there is a plaque inscribed by Emperor Kangxi hanging high: “Dan Tai Bi Dong”.

Another main hall is the Sanhuang Hall. Inside the hall, there are stone-carved statues of Fuxi, Shennong, and Huangdi. They were carved in the 11th year of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty (AD 723) and are all seated statues.

There is also the Huangdi Shrine in the temple, which enshrines Huangdi. There is a cave beside the Huangdi Shrine, which is Tianshi Cave. It is said to be the place where Zhang Daoling practiced. There is a stone niche on the upper floor of the cave, which enshrines the stone statue of Zhang Daoling carved in the Sui Dynasty. Outside the cave, there is also a statue of Zhang Jixian, the 30th-generation grandson of Zhang Daoling and the “Xu Jing Tianshi” in the Song Dynasty, on display.
