The Color-Viewing Building was built in 1931 and also has another name, the Book and Pen Building. It is called the Color-Viewing Building because one can enjoy extremely beautiful sunset glow on its top floor. It has changed hands three times. This villa was designed by a Dutch engineer (constructed by Xu Chuncao Construction Company). Later, it was sold to Ding Yushu and then to Chen Simin, the boss of Shanghai Guchiling Toothpaste Factory. Nowadays, the descendants of the Chen family no longer live here, and this villa has been left vacant ever since.
The Color-Viewing Building is the tallest building on Gulangyu Island. Its greatest attraction is not the architectural design itself, but the fact that one can enter the building and enjoy an unobstructed view of the scenery of Gulangyu Island in all its glory, the colorful clouds all over the sky, and the sea visible both in the front and the back. The view is no less beautiful than that seen from Riguang Rock, which is due to its superior geographical location. Since it is not as tall as Riguang Rock, the scenery is even more clearly distinguishable.

However, due to years of disrepair and the unknown whereabouts of the owner, tourists can no longer enter the Color-Viewing Building to admire the beautiful scenery they have imagined. They can only sigh in front of the iron gate and the broken windows. Even if they could enter, this villa can currently only serve as a staircase for people to climb up and enjoy a distant view, as the interior has completely changed beyond recognition.

Opening hours: The exterior is open 24 hours a day.
