Fangcao Garden is located in the west section of Xinmen Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou. It was first established during the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, with a history of over three hundred years. It is one of the four seasonal gardens created by the General Shi Lang, the Duke of Jinghai, known as the Spring Garden or ‘Fangcao Garden’. The garden was designed with the theme of ‘fragrant grass’, inspired by the seasonal appreciation of literature and poetry, ‘Spring Tour to the Fragrant Grassland’, but was later abandoned.

According to records, Fangcao Garden was primarily composed of vast lawns, and its layout techniques were comparable to those of Sanzhou Fangcao. Currently, the garden features attractions such as the Chongzheng Academy, the ‘Sanzhou Fragrant Grass’ archway, and the Hanbi Pavilion. Strolling through the garden, one is greeted by lush greenery, with a variety of tall trees such as banyan, longan, magnolia, and palm trees, creating an enchanting and spacious area for appreciation, play, and rest.

The garden also makes use of the existing terrain to create slopes and solitary shaped banyan stumps, widely planting fragrant camphor and osmanthus trees, complemented by a large number of lawns and various flowering shrubs. The diverse plant forms and the changing colors and shapes of flowers throughout the seasons will make your visit a memorable experience. The garden is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
