Changle Xianying Palace is located on the seashore of Xianqi, Zhanggang, Changle, Fujian, 50 kilometers away from Fuzhou. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit and a 3A-level tourist scenic area, well-known far and wide.
Xianying Palace was first built in the eighth year of Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty (1138 AD). In the third year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1490 AD), the back hall was converted into “Fengqi Academy”. Around the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it was buried underground due to a huge natural disaster and disappeared ever since.

On June 22, 1992, the ancient palace site was accidentally discovered and unearthed as a whole. After being buried for more than a hundred years, more than fifty divine statues unearthed are still brightly colored and vivid. A batch of ceramic utensils are also basically intact. Mr. Luo Zhewen, the former president of the Chinese Cultural Relics Association, gladly inscribed “Happy to see the treasures shine again”.

When the ancient palace was restored, auspicious omens appeared frequently. Thousands of colorful butterflies, grasshoppers and frogs came for fun, lingering with the divine statues and being intimate with tourists. The beautiful name of “Butterfly Palace” spread quickly, and tourists flocked in.

The rebuilt Xianying Palace covers an area of 30 mu. The halls, palaces, towers and arches, with red tiles and flying eaves, are row upon row, presenting a spectacular sight. The clay color sculptures in the underground palace maintain the original worship sequence. After discussions by historians and cultural relic experts, it is believed that the prototype of the “Maritime Patrol Minister” is Zheng He. It is the earliest statue of Zheng He discovered in China and is enshrined in the same hall as Mazu, which is also the first seen in China. The National Museum of China replicated the entire group of statues of the “Maritime Patrol Minister” for display.
