Wunv Mountain Scenic Area – A Majestic Historical and Natural Gem in Liaoning

Wunv Mountain Scenic Area is located 8.5 kilometers north of Huanren County in the eastern part of Liaoning Province, adjacent to Huan Long Lake, with the main peak reaching an elevation of 823 meters. The scenic area boasts a unique geographical position, majestic mountain peaks, abundant landscapes, diverse flora and fauna. It is a World Cultural Heritage site, a national 4A-level scenic spot, one of China’s famous mountains, and the first generation royal city of the Goguryeo kingdom, a minority ethnic group in the northern frontier of China.

It is also a national key cultural relics protection unit and one of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China. The scenic area features a harmonious blend of historical relics and natural scenery. The Wunv Mountain City is large in scale, grand in momentum, and complete in system. In terms of city layout, wall construction, and stone processing, it highlights the outstanding wisdom and superb architectural skills of the Goguryeo people, setting a precedent for the construction of mountain cities by the Goguryeo people, which had a significant impact on the architecture of the Goguryeo people and even the architectural technology in Northeast Asia in later generations.

Inside and outside the mountain city, many early Goguryeo relics have been discovered, including the royal palace, barracks, granaries, and the Heavenly Pool. These sites have withstood more than 2000 years of vicissitudes, evoking a sense of nostalgia and deep emotions. Wunv Mountain not only has a rich cultural connotation but also extremely beautiful natural scenery. The mountain is shrouded in a sea of mist and towering peaks, ancient pines, and secluded valleys, with a stream of white clouds and a face full of fresh air.

The Flying Peak stands alone, as if it has come from the sky; the Heroic Pine grows on the mountain, exuding a heroic spirit; the One-Line Sky has a work of art created by nature, with stone cliffs standing upright on both sides, reaching a depth of 31 meters and a narrowness of 0.65 meters. Looking up from within, one can only see a sliver of the blue sky; standing on the command platform and looking into the distance, one can see the vast smoke and waves of Huan Long Lake to the east, and the mysterious Tai Chi diagram to the south.

When the mist and rain are hazy, the green mountains are like ink, and the clear water is like a deep pool, resembling a light ink painting. At the foot of Wunv Mountain, a new large museum of 3400 square meters has been built, using multimedia, holographic imaging, scene restoration, electronic books, and other forms to display more than 600 precious cultural relics unearthed from Wunv Mountain City.
