Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area, located in Qionglai, the first city on the ancient Southern Silk Road west of Chengdu, is approximately 110 kilometers away from the urban area of Chengdu. The main peak, Yuxiaofeng, stands at an altitude of 1812 meters. It is part of the World Natural Heritage site of the Sichuan Giant Panda Habitat, a national-level scenic area, a national forest park, and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

It is also one of the top eight places in the world to view fireflies. Historically known as Dongmeng Mountain, it is said to be the place where the great Yu, the ancient Chinese ruler, sacrificed to heaven during the flood control period, hence the term ‘Yugong Mengshan’. At its peak, the mountain was home to over 100 temples, Taoist monasteries, and official buildings, reflecting the coexistence of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

The scenic area is characterized by a box-like syncline mountainous terrain, roughly shaped like the letter ‘U’, resembling a ‘seat’ facing west to east. The mountain body forms three terraces: Yitiantai, Ertiantai, and Zhengtiantai, showcasing the unique feature of ‘one terrace, one heaven, ascending to the ninth heaven’. The scenic area is famous for its ‘strange mountains, peculiar rocks, beautiful waters, serene forests, and charming clouds’, and boasts a landscape of ‘ninety miles of long rivers, eight hundred streams, nine thousand strange rocks, and two thousand peaks’.

With a forest coverage rate of about 95%, it is rich in flora and fauna. The saying ‘as high as the mountain, as high as the water’ is exemplified by the Jinlong River, which meanders down from the peak of Yuxiaofeng, creating various water features such as long beaches, cascades, waterfalls, and lakes, as well as low mountain sea of clouds and Buddha’s light. It is known for the reputation ‘after returning from Jiuzhaigou, no need to see water; after returning from Tiantai, no need to play with water’.

It is a mountainous summer resort with the characteristics of high-altitude water play and night firefly viewing, a natural scenic area for biodiversity science popularization, and the first mountain on the Southern Silk Road west of Chengdu. The scenic area includes attractions such as Changhong Waterfall, Xiangshui Beach Waterfall, Shenfeng Cave, Guanyin Bridge, Daoxie Stone, Yinfeng, Xiaomo House, Hua Shi Forest, San Dao Wan, Leiyin Temple, Chinese Fir Forest Skywalk, Xiuqiu Flower Sea, Xiushui San Yun, Shili Xiangcao Gully, Red Army Long March Qionglai Memorial Hall, and Sichuan Red Army Long March Digital Exhibition Hall.
