Daqiao Village in Hui’an County, Fujian Province, is renowned as the ‘Huian Women’s Folklore Village’, the original birthplace and settlement of the Huian Women. Here, visitors can enjoy the tidal views and watch the sunrise and sunset over the sea, appreciate the scenery of the fishing village, and experience the simple and unique folk customs of the Huian Women, such as going to sea, farming, lifting stones, and weaving nets. You can also live the life of a fishing village and taste its delicacies.
Huian Women are a special ethnic group in Hui’an County, Fujian Province, mainly distributed in the eastern part of Hui’an in Chongwu, Shanxia, Jingfeng, and Xiaoqiao, and are authentic Han Chinese. Hundreds of years ago, they wore colorful headscarves and yellow hats, tight and short upper garments that exposed their navels, and particularly loose and baggy pants, known as ‘feudal head, democratic belly, economical shirt, wasteful pants’. They are famous for their peculiar attire both domestically and internationally, and are also renowned for their virtues of ‘hardworking and frugal, virtuous and kind, and enduring hardship’.
