Chadao Ancient City is located in Chadao Village, Badaling Town, Yanqing District, Beijing. It was built in 1551, the 30th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. The entire ancient city is in an irregular rectangle shape, slightly bulging in the middle and slightly shrinking at both ends. It is built according to the mountain terrain. The northern part of the city is built on the hillside. On the west city gate are four big characters ‘Chaxi Xiongguan’, which, together with the mottled blue brick city wall, become a simple and vigorous landscape.

Inside the ancient city are well-arranged Ming and Qing architectures, full of antique charm. There are numerous shops on both sides of the street, very lively. There are also stone mills and stone rollers scattered by the roadside that seem to have some years, appearing extremely serene. Along the way, one can see the restored City God Temple, Guandi Temple, mountain gate, stage, yamen post station, mosque, etc.

Walking among them, one can seem to feel the prosperity of those years. There is a fortress on the top of the mountains on the northeast and east sides of the ancient city. There are beacon towers for observing the enemy on the surrounding mountains. Outside the west city gate are a drill ground, grain, and weapon and ammunition warehouses. The two ancient locust trees in the city are still lush after a hundred years, showing vitality.
