Zhichun Island is home to a beautifully painted wooden square pavilion with double eaves and a four-cornered spire roof, known as the Zhichun Pavilion. The pavilion covers an area of 104.84 square meters and stands at a height of 2.55 meters. Beneath the pavilion, there are seven arches supported by granite piers. The bridge features a flat surface with two slopes, adorned with 22 balustrade panels and 24 supporting columns, all coated in a deep red paint. To the west of the bridge, there are two steps leading up to the cloud-walking platform.

Zhichun Pavilion is not only an excellent spot for enjoying the spring scenery in the Summer Palace but also possesses a unique advantage. From both the perspectives of ‘landscape’ and ‘viewing,’ the location of Zhichun Pavilion is extremely successful. Up close, the pavilion with its double eaves and spire roof is bright and beautiful, forming a refreshing combination of water and land with the wooden bridge connecting the two islands and the Wenchang Pavilion towering on the eastern shore.

From a distance, looking from south to north, Zhichun Pavilion serves as the foreground that enriches the scene, making the skyline of the northeast lake full and rich, appearing substantial amidst its sparseness. Looking from north to south, the small island of Zhichun Pavilion conceals the plain eastern dike, adding depth to the lake’s surface. Together with the lake-facing buildings to the north such as ‘Yulan Hall,’ ‘Rixijia Tower,’ and ‘Shuimu Ziquin,’ they form an embracing tranquil harbor, adding a sense of intimacy and harmony to the vast waters of the Kunming Lake in front.

Opening Hours: The pavilion is open all year round, 24 hours a day. The specific operating status is subject to the daily opening conditions.
