The ‘Porcelain Courtyard – Zhonghua Porcelain Art Garden Art Museum’ is a private art museum in Tianjin that takes ancient porcelain as the carrier, tells local stories of Tianjin, and promotes traditional Chinese culture. This museum is located in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Basin in Xiqing District of this city, adjacent to the ancient town of Yangliuqing, covering an area of 1600 square meters.


The current assessed value of the main building of this exhibition hall is 9.8 billion yuan. Each ancient porcelain piece is carefully selected and pasted by professional technicians, and it takes more than ten years to polish and present, interpreting the spirit of Chinese craftsmen who are never tired of refinement. This museum is based on providing tourists with all-round services from multiple perspectives such as sightseeing tourism, cultural exchanges, art appreciation, historical research, popular science education, and cultural dissemination.



Since ancient times, China has been the hometown of porcelain. Porcelain is an important creation and great invention of the Chinese people, and it is a great contribution of the Chinese nation to world civilization. Porcelain is widely used in life. The appearance of porcelain can be traced back to the prosperous Shang Dynasty and flourished in the Tang Dynasty. Both production techniques and artistic creations have reached a certain level. Officials and dignitaries from all over the world are proud of having porcelain at home. It has played an important role in international cultural exchanges and business exchanges. Thus, the prosperous Tang Dynasty also won the reputation of ‘porcelain country’.


The original intention of this museum with the theme of ‘porcelain’ is to let every tourist understand the long history of Chinese national culture. Moreover, in the way of pasting porcelain pieces, the fragments of Tianjin’s history are also slowly pieced together in front of tourists. The porcelain-painted areas of this exhibition hall are divided into: Tianjin Development Brief History Area, Tianjin Ten Scenic Spots Exhibition Area, Tianjin Wharf Culture Promotion Area, and Folk Story Inheritance Area. It shows Tianjin’s history and local culture in a new way, allowing tourists from all directions to understand Tianjin’s yesterday and today through microscopic pictures and texts.


This museum has exhausted the ancient porcelain collected by three generations. Preparation began in 2008, and construction started in 2016. Up to now, more than 700 million pieces of ancient porcelain pieces from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties and five famous kiln mouths have been used, taking 500,000 man-hours. The process of building the exhibition hall reflects the advocated spirit of great craftsmen. It also adds an unsurpassed porcelain culture art museum to Tianjin.


Opening hours: Open from 09:00 to 18:00 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year; closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 18:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
