The Pudong Art Museum (MAP) is invested, constructed and operated by Lujiazui Group. It is designed by the famous French architect and Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel. Construction started on September 26, 2017, and it was officially opened to the public in July 2021. Pudong Art Museum is located in the core area of Lujiazui by the river. It is a modern building with 6 floors and a height of 30 meters.
It extends westward to the banks of the Huangpu River and connects to the Oriental Pearl Tower eastward through the garden square, forming a 30,000-square-meter art museum territory. The main building of Pudong Art Museum covers an area of 13,000 square meters, and the total building space area is nearly 40,000 square meters. There are 13 exhibition halls with an exhibition area of more than 10,000 square meters. The building facade and the ground are both made of Shandong white granite, and the internal space and decoration are inspired by Malevich’s classic geometric lines. As a state-owned public art museum, Pudong Art Museum is an important measure to create the ‘Shanghai culture’ brand. It shoulders the cultural mission and social responsibility entrusted by the municipal and district governments. It focuses on international art exhibition and exchanges while taking into account domestic art exhibitions. It highlights four functions of exhibitions, aesthetic education, cultural and creative products, and international exchanges. It is committed to becoming a new landmark of Shanghai’s international cultural venues and an important platform for international cultural and artistic exchanges. Pudong Art Museum invites the world’s top art museums and artists to cooperate at the same time, providing audiences with the precious experience of enjoying the world’s artistic treasures without leaving Shanghai. It strives to become ‘the first exhibition place in China for internationally renowned art exhibitions and a must-visit place for domestic artists’. Pudong Art Museum invites the Tate Gallery in the UK as an operation consulting consultant and opening exhibition partner, and has signed a five-year strategic cooperation agreement with it. It plans to launch a blockbuster exhibition every year. Exhibition project: Cao Fei: Tidal Cosmos. Exhibition time: From June 22, 2024 to November 17, 2024.
