The Longtan Ancient Town, more than 30 kilometers east of Youyang County, was built in the first year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1736). In 1935, it was established as a town. Thanks to the convenience of Longtan River and Youshui River, it was once an important commercial market town. There is a saying that ‘Longtan has goods and Gongtan has money’. During the Anti-Japanese War, Longtan Ancient Town became a large rear area to avoid the war. On the small town of 1.5 square kilometers, 80,000 people gathered, making Longtan Ancient Town famous all over the country for a time and being hailed as ‘Little Nanjing’. The more than 400-year-old flagstone old street and quadrangle courtyards in the ancient town. Firewalls are its unique architecture. The walls built with fire bricks in the town are as high as more than ten meters or twenty or thirty meters. Then, a wedge-shaped retaining wall about 1 meter high is built with iron or wood, and houses are built inside. The main street is about 5 meters wide and is all paved with square bluestones. Due to the long age and the footsteps of pedestrians, the flagstones are very smooth. When walking here, you need to be格外小心.
The ancient buildings in the ancient town are distributed in a long shape from south to north along the river. Many of the house foundation steps are built with finely drilled stone strips.
