The owner of Zhong’s Courtyard is Mr. Zhong Yunting, a native of Ciqikou. Legend has it that he was intelligent since childhood and was proficient in all aspects of music, chess, calligraphy and painting. Thus, recommended by relatives and friends, he was received by Empress Dowager Cixi and eventually became an external purchaser for Empress Dowager Cixi, responsible for purchasing goods. He often entered and exited the palace gate and purchased gold, silver, jewels, delicacies and furs for Empress Dowager Cixi, and was highly valued.

Later, Zhong Yunting was allowed to return to his hometown after resigning. He invited someone to design a house blueprint in Beijing and returned to his hometown Ciqikou to build a house. This is now Zhong’s Courtyard. This courtyard has a spacious patio, strict axial symmetry, and quite the charm of a northern quadrangle. However, the small black tiles used as building materials and the Chuan Dou wooden frame in the building structure are extremely characteristic of southern residential buildings.

The corridor surrounds it and the space is smooth. Zhong’s Courtyard has a history of more than 120 years. The entire courtyard covers an area of 2000 square meters, and the garden alone is 500 square meters. Of course, not much of the courtyard remains now, only the front courtyard. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
