The Joy & Friendship Soloists Ensemble, in just two years since its establishment, has already captivated audiences in Hong Kong and Europe with their vitality and exquisite skills. Continuing the brilliant charm from the Paris premiere, the second stop of their world tour is set to be just as enchanting.
This year, the ensemble has expanded its reach with consecutive visits to Hungary and France. They have also commissioned a new piece, ‘Shadow,’ from the internationally renowned Dutch composer of Korean descent, Seung-Won Oh. This composition is for string orchestra, cello, and Ondes Martenot—a unique electronic instrument invented by French World War I radio operator and cellist Martenot in 1928. In the new double concerto, the Ondes Martenot will engage in a dialogue of ever-changing sounds with Li Chuiyi’s cello and the string orchestra.
The concert program is rich and varied. It includes Vivaldi’s Four Violin Concertos, which will feature four soloist members performing and showcasing their skills alongside the orchestra. There is also Rameau’s Six Concerts, a tribute to the 260th anniversary of the death of the French Baroque master. Moving into the 20th century, the program includes Milhaud’s String Octet, a clever combination of two string quartets played simultaneously, and Bartók’s lively Romanian Dances, which will bring the concert to a successful close.
The opening time for this exceptional event is on Saturday, November 23rd. Please note that the performance time and duration are subject to the venue’s schedule.
