St. Andrew’s Church is a historic church in Kowloon District. It was donated and built by Sir Catchick Paul Chater in 1904. The St. Andrew’s Church with a history of more than a hundred years has endured many hardships like other churches in Hong Kong. In addition to being hit by many typhoons, during the Japanese occupation period, the chief pastor of the church was imprisoned and the church was also converted into a Shinto shrine of the Japanese sun god. St. Andrew’s Church is in the Gothic Revival style, with a red brick exterior wall, pointed arched windows, curved tracery and stained glass windows. There are many exquisitely carved patterns inside, exuding an elegant European flavor. The towering trees in the courtyard sift the sunlight into elegant light and shadow. The lawn in the afternoon is especially peaceful and worth a visit for a short rest.
