The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the ‘Grand Church’, is part of the Historic Centre of Macau. It has been a must-visit place for successive Macau governors upon taking office, symbolizing divine power. After more than 400 years of weathering and multiple renovations, the magnificent and grand building, which was constructed in 1937, has a history of nearly a century. This gray trinity soil building exhibits Spanish religious characteristics, with an external appearance that is grand, elegant, and dignified, and an interior that is exquisitely decorated, once housing numerous Catholic relics and historical sites.

The church can be divided into two main parts: the central part is the church itself, where one can feel a solemn and sacred atmosphere. At the entrance stands a wooden Portuguese screen, with plain walls adorned with simple decorations. High windows line the side walls, embedded with stained glass that exudes a strong religious artistic aura. If you happen to visit on a Sunday, you can attend a mass.

In front of the church, there is a small square paved with black and white Portuguese cobblestones, featuring a distinctive small fountain that creates an elegant and tranquil tourist spot. The other part of the church is the bell tower on the side, with a bell made in the UK to commemorate the ascension of King Pedro V of Portugal. Nowadays, whenever there are significant masses, ceremonies, or weddings in Macau, the bell tower rings to inform the local people.

The church is open all year round from 07:30 to 20:00.
