Lianxi Temple, with a history of over two centuries, is home to numerous Bodhisattvas and enjoys a thriving incense culture. Named after its location, Macau’s topography is likened to a lotus flower, hence the nickname ‘Lotus Island’. The route from mainland China to Macau is considered a lotus platform, with a mountain rising at the end, known as Lotus Mountain, also called Lianfeng. On the sunny side of Lianfeng, there was once a stream flowing through the Xinqiao neighborhood, named Lianxi, and the temple was built on the right bank of this stream, hence the name Lianxi Temple. Originally constructed during the reign of Emperor Daoguang, the temple enshrines deities such as Huaguang, Bei Di, Cai Bo, and Wenchang. After several periods of destruction, renovation, and expansion, the Xinqiao district where the temple is located has transformed from a vast ocean to one of the bustling areas of Macau. The temple is open all year round from 7:30 AM to 5:15 PM, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.
