Our Lady of Snows Chapel is one of the older structures on the Wangyang Terrace, featuring a predominantly white exterior with yellow accents, embodying the architectural style of a 17th-century Portuguese monastery.
The ancient murals within the chapel blend the characteristics of both Chinese and Western cultures and arts, depicting figures such as the Virgin Mary, Saint Anthony of Padua or Lisbon, lions, double-headed eagles, and peonies, which possess both artistic value and aesthetic appeal.
The chapel is open to the public from 10:00 to 17:00 throughout the year. Essential tips for visitors include: 1. No photography, videography, or loud noises are allowed inside the chapel (protective measures for the ancient murals). 2. Adjacent to the chapel is the Dongwangyang Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses along the Chinese coast. Near the lighthouse, one can also find typhoon signal marks. When typhoons approach, the meteorological bureau hangs corresponding typhoon signal marks on the battery to alert the public to prepare. The lighthouse is not open to the public on ordinary days.
