Kenting National Park is located on the southern side of the Hengchun Peninsula and is a national park surrounded by the sea on three sides. It is also a national park that encompasses both land and sea areas.
When visiting Kenting National Park, it is common to divide the main attractions into east and west lines, starting from Hengchun Ancient City. The east and west lines are further divided into upper and lower sections, with the main attractions primarily located in the lower east and west lines. Due to the dispersed nature of the attractions, it typically takes about two days to explore all the sites.

The upper east line features attractions such as Jialeshui Scenic Area, Qikong Waterfall, and Chuhuo Scenic Area. The lower east line includes Longpan Park, Eluanbi Park, Sail Rock, Kenting, and Nanwan Beach. The upper west line has the Marine Biology Museum, while the lower west line features Maobi Head Park and Houbi Lake Fishery Port (seafood market).
Most visitors focus on a one-day tour of the lower east and west lines, and if time permits, they may also visit Hengchun Ancient City. Built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it is one of the well-preserved ancient fortresses on the island. While Hengchun Ancient City may not be familiar to many, the movie ‘Cape No. 7’ is well-known, and the city is the setting and filming location for the film. Visitors can tour the protagonist A Jia’s home, take a photo with the mailbox, send a postcard to friends, and explore the bustling西门 within the ancient city.
Starting from Hengchun Ancient City, one can first visit Maobi Head Park on the lower west line, located at the southwest end of the Hengchun Peninsula. Named for its resemblance to a crouching cat, it boasts a variety of naturally sculpted terrains due to its geographical features, making it an ideal spot for enjoying the sea and viewing rocks.
After visiting Maobi Head Park, one can head east to Longluan Lake, a gathering place for migratory birds during the autumn and winter seasons and an ideal spot for birdwatching. Exiting Eluanbi Park and walking back, one will pass by Sail Rock, located between Kenting and Eluanbi Park. It is a reef standing in the sea, resembling a sailing ship about to set sail. Continuing back, one arrives at Nanwan Beach. Although Nanwan may not be well-known, the Oscar-winning movie ‘Life of Pi’ directed by Ang Lee is familiar, and Nanwan Beach is the filming location for the movie’s ending scene. With its clear blue waters and beautiful, fine sand, it is one of the representative attractions of Kenting National Park and has become the hub for water activities in Kenting.
