Friends who like ginkgo biloba cannot miss it. Every autumn, you can enjoy a golden ginkgo forest.
The Xitou Nature Education Park is a concave valley surrounded by mountains on three sides. The highest altitude is Lingtoushan in the south at 2,025 meters. It extends northward to the Phoenix Mountains, forming the eastern mountain ridge of this area. It extends westward to the Neishu and mountains and then turns northward, forming the mountain ridge boundaries on the south and west sides of this area.
The valley flows between the two mountain ranges and exits from the north. The altitude of the main area is between 800 and 2,000 meters. According to the observation data results of the Xitou weather station, the monthly average temperature range of Xitou is between 11.0 and 20.8 degrees Celsius, with an annual average temperature of 16.6 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 2,635.18 mm.
It is a warm and humid climate type. There is no shortage of water throughout the year. The effective temperature is not concentrated in summer. It is quite suitable for Chinese people to come here for summer vacation and leisure.
The scenery of University Pond is beautiful and elegant, making people intoxicated. Occasionally, there is a misty haze, which is even more like a dreamland. It is a place for many young people to fall in love and also adds a bit of romantic charm. At University Pond, you can see the arch bridge built with Moso bamboo. In addition, you can also observe the knee roots of bald cypress. From August to September, you can also see the reproduction of Sauter’s frog. When spring comes, you can see the blooming mountain cherry blossoms. If you get up early in the morning, you can also see the crested babbler taking a bath!
The semicircular roof of the observatory can rotate 360 degrees. There is a large skylight on the roof. Through the astronomical telescope, you can peek into the mysteries of the universe from here. This observatory is set up by the Department of Physics of National Taiwan University. It belongs to a research astronomical telescope. Here, at an altitude of 1800 meters, there are forests all around. After nightfall, there is no light pollution and you can clearly observe the starry sky!
Ginkgo biloba is a tree species with beautiful tree shape. The leaves are rich in seasonal changes and each has a unique charm: green leaves in spring and summer, turning yellow in autumn, and another look when the leaves fall off in winter. Ginkgo biloba is commonly known as ginkgo in Taiwan. Its kernels are edible and the seed coat is poisonous. Since it is sporadically distributed in Taiwan, the ginkgo afforestation area in Xitou is extremely impressive. Next to the ginkgo forest, ‘Luliao Gully’ formed after the Taoyuan typhoon is an outdoor classroom for you to experience the power of nature.
