Upon entering the Crocodile Hill scenic area at the southwest end of Weizhou Island, one can see a tall lighthouse, which is the Weizhou Island Lighthouse—one of the iconic structures of the island. Although this lighthouse stands as the highest point on the island, it is currently not open for visitors to climb and enjoy the view; it serves as a backdrop for tourists to take photos and commemorate their visit.
The Weizhou Lighthouse was initially established in 1956 as a navigational marker for passing ships in the vicinity. It was originally constructed as an iron frame structure and later transformed into a stone tower, before being rebuilt in 2002 into the current 22-meter-high tower that stands today. The exterior of the lighthouse is adorned with white stone-like bricks, and it features a spiral staircase inside, with an observation deck at the upper part. The lighthouse is open to the public from 08:00 to 17:30 all year round.
