Hepu Mooncake Town is located within the expanded area of Hepu Industrial Park in Guangxi. It is on the bank of Lianzhou Bay between Hepu County and Beihai urban area, and close to Hepu High-speed Railway Station. The total land area is 5 square kilometers, of which the core area covers 3 square kilometers and the start-up area is 1.52 square kilometers. It will be built into an industrial and trade characteristic town integrating ‘industrial production, scientific and technological research and development, creative design, product exhibition and sales, learning experience, cultural leisure, tourism and sightseeing, and quality living’, with the leisure food industry chain as the core, the mooncake culture innovation chain as the characteristic, and the business and leisure tourism chain as a supplement.
The mooncake town is planned and laid out according to ‘one axis, two centers and five zones’. ‘One axis’ is the development axis running through the park along Hepu Avenue. ‘Two centers’ are: the public service center on the east side of the development axis and the expanded public service center on the west side. The public service center on the east side is planned to build a comprehensive service center, a comprehensive performing arts square, a mooncake museum (convention and exhibition center), a commercial pedestrian street, a leisure bar street, a handicraft workshop experience street, and a Yueying Lake landscape park.
The expanded public service center on the west side is planned to build a commercial and residential comprehensive block, a town living room (scientific research and training center), e-commerce and logistics information center. ‘Five zones’ are: the core area of public services, the supporting service community and three production areas.
Through taking mooncakes as the characteristic and the town as the carrier, the integration of production, life and leisure is realized. The mooncake town is built into the inheritance place of Chinese rural moon culture, the first baking experience park in South China, and an internationally renowned leisure food industrial city.
Planning and construction was started in September 2016 and it has begun to take shape. Projects such as Yueying Lake Park, the scientific and technological research and development building, the mooncake culture museum, the commercial pedestrian street, and the sewage lifting pumping station are advancing in an orderly manner. The core area has completed an investment of 858 million yuan. A total of 17 enterprises have settled in the mooncake town.
In April 2018, Hepu Mooncake Town was successfully included in the first batch of characteristic town cultivation lists in Guangxi and was recommended to the National Development and Reform Commission as a typical case of characteristic towns in Guangxi.
