Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area, nestled within the Xikou Scenic Area, is a must-visit destination. It primarily consists of Xuedou Mountain and the Xuedou Temple. The mountain is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, crisp air, and captivating waterfalls and streams.

At the base of the mountain, you’ll find the Xuedou Temple, which is home to an impressive open-air Maitreya Buddha statue. A visit to Xuedou Mountain typically takes about half a day. Starting from the Xuedou Mountain Tourist Distribution Center, you can board a shuttle bus to Sanyintan. From there, it’s best to explore the Upper, Middle, and Lower Yintan in sequence. This area is considered the heart of Xuedou Mountain, where a stream gracefully carves out three pools within a canyon. On clear, sunny days, you might even be lucky enough to spot a rainbow at the Lower Yintan.

The Miaogao Platform is another highlight, showcasing historical documents and serving as a revered spot for climbing and summer retreats since ancient times. It offers a panoramic view, making it an ideal spot for sightseeing. From the platform, you can take in the picturesque scenery of Tingxia Lake in the distance. After descending from the back path of Miaogao Platform and passing by Zhang Xueliang’s detention site, it’s a short ten-minute walk to Xuedou Temple, where the Maitreya Buddha stands. Although the temple has undergone recent renovations, it remains a popular destination for visitors who come to ’embrace the Buddha’s feet’ in search of peace.

Lastly, there’s a transportation station at the entrance of Xuedou Temple. From here, you can catch a bus back to the distribution center. This route ensures a seamless visit to Xuedou Mountain, with no backtracking and all downhill travel. If you have two days, it is recommended to arrive in Xikou at noon on the first day, purchase a two-day joint ticket for the Xikou Scenic Area, and go up the mountain after lunch. There are no restaurants on Xuedou Mountain, only small shops providing basic food. After visiting Jiang’s former residence the next morning, you can return. Additionally, about three to four kilometers west of Sanyintan, there is a Xu Fu Rock, which is also a good waterfall, but it takes about half an hour to walk there and you need to return the same way. If time is limited, consider skipping it.
