Qiandao Lake Nature Museum is located within the Qiandao Lake Scenic Area in Chun’an County, Hangzhou. Officially opened to the public on November 8, 2017, it is a modern museum that integrates display, viewing, exhibition, collection, scientific research, and scientific education, covering an area of over 6000 square meters.
The museum employs advanced sound, light, and electrical technologies to recreate the world as it was 140 million years ago. It showcases the vast history of biological evolution. Its collection includes precious fossils from various paleontological groups across the country, such as the Liaoxi Jehol Biota fossils (which UNESCO has called ‘the astonishing discovery of the 20th century’), as well as fossils from Guanling in Guizhou, Xixia in Henan, Shanwang in Shandong, and the Tongxin Biota in Ningxia, among others. The museum displays 365 pieces, some of which are considered unique in the world and are highly regarded by domestic and international peers.
Among the precious exhibits are the museum’s treasures – the Qiandao Lake Jingu, the ancestor of birds – the Sage Confucius Bird, and the Chinese Dragon Bird. Qiandao Lake Nature Museum has been designated as a ‘National Science Popularization Education Base’, ‘Capital Normal University College of Life Sciences Qiandao Lake Research Base’, ‘Chun’an Second Classroom Activity Base’, and ‘Chun’an County Social Science Popularization Base’. The museum is open all year round from 09:00 to 16:30.
