The exhibition showcasing the elegant residences of literati from the Qing Dynasty is situated in Xihu District, Hangzhou City. This cultural space, known as Taiyi Fenqing Chamber, was originally designed as a haven for scholars to copy texts and rest. It was constructed in 1881, during the rebuilding of the Wenlan Pavilion, which itself stands on the former grounds of Taiyi Palace. Taiyi Fenqing Chamber is positioned to the east of the Wenlan Pavilion, a placement that is reflected in its name, derived from the astronomical star division where ‘Taiyi Fenqing’ signifies the eastern aspect of the Taiyi star.
Tragically, the original building was consumed by a fire in 1974. However, the current structure, a faithful reconstruction, was completed in 2009 and now serves as an exhibition hall dedicated to the elegant residences of Qing Dynasty literati.
Visitors are welcome to explore this historical site from Tuesday to Sunday, with operating hours from 09:00 to 17:00. Please note that the exhibition is closed all day on Mondays throughout the year.
