Qimen Gu Niujiang is located at the junction of Qimen County, Huangshan City, and Shitai County, Chizhou City, approximately 80 kilometers away from Qimen County. It is named after the main peak, Gu Niu Dage, which resembles a bull descending from the sky. This area is not crowded with tourists, and its pools, waterfalls, canyons, and hiking trails attract visitors who prefer tranquility and outdoor enthusiasts.
Gu Niujiang, historically known as West Huangshan, is the main body of the Huangshan Mountain Range extending to the west, with the main peak at an elevation of about 1727.6 meters. Many areas within the scenic area are undeveloped, retaining a sense of wilderness. The main attractions for visitors are Gu Niu Lake at the entrance of the scenic area and the two canyons—Da and Xiao Xi Valleys.
Gu Niu Lake boasts a serene environment with clear, green waters reflecting the surrounding green mountains and trees. A wooden boardwalk is built along the lake, and there is a resort for visitors to stay. In Da and Xiao Xi Valleys, several waterfalls rush through the canyons, splashing into pools and creating a refreshing atmosphere. Additionally, there are ancient post roads and sites of the New Fourth Army.
This scenic area is an excellent destination for short self-driving tours in Anhui. Backpackers can hike to the approximately 1528-meter Dali Mountain, where the trail is steep and mostly covered with leaves and soil. Upon reaching the summit, one can set up camp and enjoy sunrises and sunsets.
