The ShiBaWo Scenic Area, also known as JiaXi Scenic Area or Central Zhejiang Grand Canyon, is a provincial-level scenic spot in Zhejiang Province. The formation of the grand canyon is due to ancient orogeny, which has created today’s beautiful spectacle under the intense topographic cutting and long-term erosion by water. Within the scenic area, the nearly one-kilometer long riverbed suddenly drops, and the water falls into the pool following this dangerous situation, causing a huge wave, howling through the cliffs, passing through the canyons, creating eighteen continuous dangerous whirlpools and deep pools, which is very spectacular.
The ShiBaWo Scenic Area features undulating peaks, grotesque rocks, exquisite waterfalls and pools, and landscapes characterized by grandeur, peculiarity, danger, elegance, seclusion, and antiquity. After being washed by wind and rain, it is presenting itself to the world in a more beautiful form. The mountain path leading into the ShiBaWo Canyon is known as JiaXi Ancient Path. At the entrance, there is a monument describing the situation of the ancient path: JiaXi Ancient Path controls the upper JinQu and extends to TaiWen, historically serving as an important passage from the coastal areas into central Zhejiang, with merchants coming and going in an endless stream, carrying trade in groups. It is not only an economic link but also a military corridor. Small bridges, JiaXi Bridge, JiaXi Fortress, and the QiJia Army camp site are all strategic passes, with soldiers stationed during the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Xianfeng years of the Qing Dynasty, the Taiping Army’s large forces moved down to TianTai along this path. The opening time is all year round from 07:00 to 17:00.
