Gong Jiayu’s Tomb is located in Pailouli by the side of the Six Harmonies Pagoda. It is a rare and relatively complete tomb of Qing Dynasty scholar-bureaucrats in the West Lake Scenic Area and even in Hangzhou. The tomb area covers an area of about 960 square meters, and the tomb path is 62.7 meters long. It is built into seven terraces according to the mountain terrain. The ornamental columns, memorial archways, stele pavilions, stone sheep, stone horses, stone tigers, and stone court attendants in front of the tomb are all well-preserved.
In August 1997, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. Gong Jiayu (1622-1685), originally named Jiayin, with the courtesy name Zuxi. Later, his courtesy name was Jiecen. His family has been from Hangzhou for generations. He served as judicial inspector of Shandong, provincial administrative commissioner of Jiangnan Province, director of the Imperial Sacrifice Court, and director of the Court of Imperial Entertainments. In 2002, the West Lake Scenic Area began to implement the protection project for Gong Jiayu’s Tomb, which was completed in 2004. On the basis of renovating the tomb path and relocating households, the project makes full use of carriers such as rocks, water bodies, and plants, combines mountain forests and clear springs to form landscapes, retains some old buildings, and shapes and reflects natural and human landscapes.
