Hangzhou Liberation Monument

In April 1949, following the People’s Liberation Army’s crossing of the river, the Seventh Corps of the Third Field Army advanced into Zhejiang from the border of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. On May 3, 1949, the Twenty-First Army of the Seventh Corps liberated Hangzhou. To commemorate this significant event, a monument was erected in 2002. The monument stands tall, yet it is regrettable that few people pause to reflect upon its meaning. It is hoped that those who pass by will understand that, while their current lives are not built on the concrete and steel of the monument, the significance it symbolizes is profound and enduring.
