Fengxiang Gorge is located 2 kilometers downstream from the White Emperor City. It is named after the yellow-brown cliffs on the north bank of the Yangtze River, which feature several discontinuous rock cracks. Above these cracks, there are rectangular wooden boxes that resemble bellows from a distance, believed to be the legendary bellows of Lu Ban. When touring by boat, it is difficult to discern the ‘bellow’, but the three large characters ‘Fengxiang Gorge’ are clearly visible. These so-called bellows are actually hanging coffins left by the ancient Ba people. In 1971, three herbal collectors risked their lives to climb into the crevices of Fengxiang Gorge, uncovering the mystery of the bellows. Here, Ba people’s remains and artifacts such as Ba-style swords and bronze axes were also discovered. The site is open all year round, 24/7. Ticket ownership has been withdrawn for POI verification. It is an open sub-attraction within a larger scenic area.
