Li’s Residence is located at No. 34 Jingnan Road. The owner, Li Shushan (1885-1945), was born into a poor family in Zhangjia Bay, Pudong Lujiadu. He engaged in shipbuilding and water transportation for many years, gradually amassing wealth, and began the construction of this residence in April 1933, which was completed in June 1935 at a cost of approximately 30,000 silver dollars. The existing building area is about 800 square meters, featuring a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, with red walls and green tiles on a two-story building.

The residence is set within a courtyard shaped like the Chinese character ‘hui’, with the outer walls made of clear water and red bricks. The south-facing facade adopts Western decorations, while the interior is a traditional Chinese courtyard. The door frames and window lattices are carved with various patterns of flowers and birds, and the carved doors and windows are embedded with stained glass – a craft that has now become extinct.

Li’s Residence has withstood the trials of war and fire. After active restoration and development, it has been transformed into a historical exhibition hall of the century-old town. Inside the residence, there are a velvet embroidery hall, a World Expo Legacy Exhibition, and a folk customs exhibition…; it has become the ‘Yangjing Cultural Exhibition Hall’. Open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
