Dan Furnace Cave is situated at an altitude of approximately 482 meters on Anqi Peak of Peach Blossom Island. Legend has it that Anqi Sheng, in order to escape the tyranny of the Qin dynasty, secluded himself in this natural stone cave on Anqi Peak to practice Taoism and refine elixirs, becoming a revered sage by later generations.

During the Yuan Dynasty, the literary figure Wu Lai (1327) visited Peach Blossom Mountain in autumn and sought after Anqi Sheng, inspecting the remnants of Dan Furnace Cave, leaving behind the poetic line ‘Only the alchemy cauldron remains, still known to the woodcutters.’
