Huading is the main peak of Tiantai Mountain. The mountain scenery here is beautiful, giving people a sense of detachment from the hustle and bustle. Every May, the rhododendron fortunei on the mountain blooms in large swaths. It is a moving moment of Huading’s scenery. Many tourists come here especially to enjoy the rhododendrons. Moreover, the average temperature in the mountain in summer is 28 degrees.

It is a recommended summer resort in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Since ancient times, many monks, travelers and poets have frequently passed by here. When climbing the mountain and enjoying the scenery, you can also encounter the relics left by predecessors and feel their moods at that time. There is still a section of mountain road from the scenic area gate to the mountaineering entrance. Self-driving cars can be driven to the nearby parking lot.

The North Bus Station has buses departing for Huading at 8:00 and 13:00 every day, stopping at Huading Villa near the mountaineering entrance. The road on the mountain is not difficult to walk. It takes about half a day to play carefully. You can also spend a few hours climbing the mountain and browsing the ancient sites in the mountain. The scenery in the mountain can be roughly divided into two parts.

One is the rhododendron fortunei forest to the left of the mountaineering entrance, where you can climb the mountain and enjoy the scenery. The second is Huading Temple and Xiake Ancient Road to the right, where cultural landscapes gather. If you come to Huading in May, the rhododendron fortunei is not to be missed. The rhododendron trees in the mountain are not only large in scale, but also many of them are more than 200 years old, which is rare in China.

Wandering among them and breathing the faint fragrance of flowers, you will feel relaxed and happy. In the middle of the rhododendron forest, there are scenic spots such as Taibai Reading Hall and Ezi Pavilion. The Guiyun Pavilion and the pavilion opposite the Baijing Terrace (the top of Huading) are the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset in the mountain. However, now on the Baijing Terrace is a radar station.

Tourists are not allowed to approach or take pictures. Some donkey friends choose to hike through Tiantai on the Xiake Ancient Road and retrace Xu Xiake’s route (Guoqing Temple – Xiake Ancient Road – Huading Temple, about 25 kilometers). Ordinary tourists take pictures in front of the stone tablet at the entrance of the ancient road, and then walk a section of tree-lined path to feel it. Huading is also the place where Master Zhizhe first set up a preaching place.

There are ancient sites such as Huading Temple and thatched cottage to visit. The ruins of the thatched cottage are near Xiake Bridge on the ancient road, while Huading Temple is close to the mountaineering entrance. There are landscapes such as Ink Pool, Zhizhe Spring, and Millennium Rhododendron King concentrated around it. The Ink Pool is said to be the place where Wang Xizhi washed his inkstone when he practiced calligraphy at Huading Temple when he was young.

The Yongzi Pavilion near the Rhododendron King corresponds to the story of Wang Xizhi writing the character ‘Yong’. Huading Villa near the mountaineering entrance can provide accommodation. The small villas in the thatched cottage are very distinctive. You might as well stay in the mountain for a few days in spring and summer. Guests still need to buy scenic spot tickets. However, after about five o’clock in the afternoon, the ticket office gets off work and you can enter the mountain for free.

It takes about half an hour to walk from here to the vicinity of the Baijing Terrace to watch the sunrise. It is relatively cold on the mountain before sunrise. Pay attention to keeping warm and travel in groups. The intertwined alpine cloud and mist tea fields on the mountain are also a scene. Tasting tea and enjoying the scenery is very pleasant.
